David Kong was born in Malaysia and completed his high school education in Malaysia. He earned his bachelor degree in Business Administration in Taiwan. After university, he spend two years working for South East Asia Iron & Steel institute in Singapore, a United Nations sponsored organization.

Mr. Kong immigrated to Canada in the mid 1970s. He studied at the University of British Columbia in the MBA program and earned his Chartered Accountant designation in British Columbia. David was a partner of Ellis Foster Chartered Accountants between 1981 and 2004. Ellis Foster was the largest independent accounting firm in British Columbia which merged with Ernst & young LLP in 2005. From 2005 to 2010, David was a partner at Ernst & Young LLP leading its China market practice in Canada. Currently, the China Markets practice at Ernst & Young LLP in Canada has over 40 professionals dedicated to this area of expertise. His team at Ernst & Young LLP is focused on servicing Canadian public companies doing business in China and Chinese public companies listed on North American securities exchanges.
