A Leader in the World's Biggest Education Market
In 1993, management anticipated enormous opportunities arising from China’s exploding middle-income market and determined that the education sector was poised for rapid growth. China has the largest education market in the world, with over 258 million students of all ages, and the middle-income sector is expected to double by 2010. These factors are contributing to an increasing demand for advanced education in business management, languages, technology, trades and applied arts. Since 1994, CIBT has been serving the needs of individuals, businesses and governments by providing a wide variety of post secondary academic and career oriented programs with a special focus on western content.
Market Statistics:

CIBT: Educating an Expanding Work Force
In China's thriving economy, pursuing higher education is essential in order to improve one's employment opportunities. The country's existing state-owned institutions have not been able to keep pace with the demand for post-secondary training. This trend has created an opportunity for CIBT and its Canadian subsidiary schools, which have an excellent reputation for providing the type of education that jobseekers need in order to succeed.
CIBT's response to this growing demand is to make strategic plans to increase capacity in China and throughout Asia. The company recently acquired Sprott-Shaw Group, the oldest and largest private career college in British Columbia, Canada, and the Tourism Training Institution, which has been serving the hospitality training sector in Canada and China for almost 20 years.
Delivering Education across Asia
CIBT’s acquisition of Sprott-Shaw Community College Group (“SSCC”), adds tremendous value to CIBT student’s through teaching quality, program selection, availability of faculty members, and by expanding students options for studying abroad. SSCC’s infrastructure, operating experience and industry knowledge complements CIBT’s global expansion plans, which has enabled the company to initiate its aggressive growth plans throughout Asia. Established in 1903, Sprott-Shaw operates a network of career and vocational training colleges, language colleges, and a degree granting college in Canada, and currently offers over 140 career-oriented programs to its students in Canada and CIBT’s students in China. Students studying at CIBT’s campuses in China may transfer their earned credits to Sprott-Shaw colleges in Canada, or enroll directly into Sprott-Shaw campuses in Canada for their entire term of study.
A Century of Experience: Sprott-Shaw Community College
The first Sprott-Shaw school opened over a century ago as the Vancouver Business Institute, with Sprott-Shaw College in Victoria following in 1913. The school has survived the Great Depression, two World Wars and numerous economic recessions.
Over the years the SSCC’s curriculum has expanded to include training in healthcare, tourism, hospitality, business administration and international studies, providing relevant skills for high growth industries. All SSCC locations feature small classes, qualified instructors, hands-on training and a friendly, productive learning environment for adults of all ages. Training excellence has earned SSCC a solid reputation with both the private sector and government, resulting in an enviable record of securing jobs for its graduates.
Today, SSCC operates career and vocational schools, language training schools, and a baccalaureate degree granting college, through 20 campuses in Western Canada and business locations in Vietnam, the Philippines, Jordan and China.
Expanding Market Share
Using the “Spoke & Hub” model, CIBT will expand into other Asian markets with a regional full-size campus, dubbed as a Hub, servicing CIBT Centers, dubbed as Spokes, which reach into other Asian markets. The Hubs will also accommodate CIBT’s plans for growth in technical and vocational sectors such as hotel management, construction trades management, multimedia animation and film production. The company also plans to acquire other state-owned colleges and transform them into private business or career colleges.
The company’s objective is to create a massive distribution network for its educational services, solidify the company’s footprint in China and provide the momentum to expand across Asia.
